BladderScan Prime Plus From Verathon Takes Accuracy and Ease of Use to a New Level

Nov. 14, 2017 (Bothell, WA) – Verathon® Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of imaging and respiratory medical device solutions, announced the launch of its new portable 3D ultrasound instrument: BladderScan Prime Plus™.

Powered by ImageSense™ artificial intelligence (AI), BladderScan Prime Plus provides exceptional accuracy with enhanced, “point and click” ease of use.

ImageSense, the groundbreaking algorithm in Prime Plus, combines clinical data from thousands of scans and tens of thousands of ultrasound images with Deep Learning technology—setting a new standard in bladder volume measurement accuracy:

±7.5% on volumes from 100-999 mL and ±7.5mL on volumes from 0-100mL.

This accuracy performance is a significant improvement compared to previous BladderScan products across all patient modes, and is better than published comparable bladder volume measurement devices with ±10% or ±10 mL accuracy (which are 33% less accurate than Prime Plus).

ImageSense is the company’s 2nd generation AI algorithm. With its introduction, Verathon continues to lead the market in applying AI technology for bladder volume measurement.

The simple, intuitive design of BladderScan Prime Plus significantly improves on the ease-of-use of BladderScan Prime. Included among the key usability improvements are:

  • One-mode scanning for all patient types
  • “Point and click” use—ImageSense, combined with VMode® automated 3D volume acquisition, requires no manual probe fanning, minimizes user error, and optimizes clinical workflows
  • Improved BladderTraq™ aiming assist and new visual/color cues to indicate proper aiming
  • Durable medical-grade design and simplified cleaning for real-world use and compliance with hospital disinfectant standards

“We have designed BladderScan Prime Plus to have the optimal combination of accuracy and ease of use across a wide range of clinical users and settings,” said Verathon President Earl Thompson. “It offers a streamlined workflow that can help improve patient care, and help reduce or avoid catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI).”

The company also announced that the Prime Plus software upgrade will be made available free of charge to existing Prime customers upon request.

For more than 25 years, BladderScan instruments have been built to meet the demands of tough clinical settings. Made in the USA, BladderScan devices are backed by a commitment to best-in-class service and warranty solutions, along with dedicated customer service teams.
