Abstract:
A Portable Bladder Scanner
Diane Kaschak
Newman and Diane A. Smith. "A Portable Bladder
Scanner." Nurse Practitioner Forum 2 (December
1991) 4: 243-45.
Objectives:
* To make nurse practitioners aware of the availability
of the portable BladderScan®
and its potential to improve clinical practices.
Summary:
The authors describe how the BladderScan can be used
to evaluate lower urinary tract function and outline
the procedure for performing a scan using the BladderScan
BVI 2000. They then discuss other applications of this
technology and assess its overall value.
Conclusions:
* "Bladder ultrasonography is a noninvasive procedure
that can accurately measure PVR."
* Applications include noninvasive assessment of urinary
retention and voiding disorders, and monitoring of urinary
volume to facilitate appropriate catheterization schedules.
* BladderScan technology is portable and easy to use.
* BladderScan technology is useful in diverse clinical
settings, including rehabilitation, nursing homes, and
pediatric care.
